06/10/2014 Hopes and Achievements for Residency at Red Gate Galley

“My work is seeking ways to show the essence of every one of the spectators, subtly, encouraging them to discover their world through mine”

What will you be preparing in Beijing? What would you like to work on?
I am very open to new findings and the influence of new surroundings, but basically, I am interested in working with emblematic materials of Chinese culture, such as traditional papers, graphic characters, pictures and patterns. I will integrate these to my personal iconography, looking to create new connections that express a symbiosis between my previous work and the process that I will be going through in Beijing.

I would like to make a video and a performance piece.

Are you going to do something site-specific?
If it is appropriate, a site-specific project could be a piece of art that reflects the significance of my relationship with the environment that welcoming me.

How do you think the city of Beijing and Chinese culture will influence your work?

I have always been an admirer of the artistic expressions of China. It is very natural for me to be permeated by everything my eyes can seize as aesthetic information. This endless process takes place wherever I can move. I am sure the strong identity of Chinese culture will leave an indelible mark on all of my upcoming projects and thoughts.
