Our desire in supporting these activities goes beyond wanting to expand our company’s cultural programming. We have a deeper goal, which is to support the vibrancy of cultural life in the Dominican Republic, where much of our production and so many of our people are based. We hope to bring opportunity and visibility to the art and culture of the wider Caribbean region, building on our company’s long-standing commitment to artistry, craftsmanship, community and quality.
When Davidoff became an Associate Partner of Art Basel for its shows in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, in 2012, we took a step toward a closer to the world of art by launching the Davidoff Art Initiative. The art initiative has made a deep and lasting contribution to the contemporary art field, not only in the Dominican Republic but across the Caribbean region, where many of our products are cultivated and crafted.
It has also brought awareness of Caribbean art and artists the wider international art world.
Our Initiative has created opportunities for contemporary artists, strengthened organizations that are working to promote Caribbean art, shared knowledge and expertise about contemporary art among collectors, experts, and art enthusiasts. The centerpiece of the initiative is the Davidoff Art Residency, which offers residency opportunities for Caribbean artists in selected leading artist residency programs worldwide, as well as for international artists in the Dominican Republic.
We are working to connect today’s Caribbean art to the international art world, in addition, through Davidoff Art Dialogues, Davidoff Art Grants, Davidoff Art Editions, and since 2014, Davidoff Art Books.
We believe these projects have not only left an impact on the Caribbean, but they also offer interesting and exciting opportunities for cultural engagement for our customers and colleagues.
